  1. Why is it called "Puritan" Reformed Theological Seminary?
Our mission is to prepare students to serve Christ and His church through biblical, experiential, and practical ministry. The Puritans continued the Reformers great work and applied this same perspective to their worship and life. We cherish this heritage in our seminary's academics and values.

  2. What makes PRTS different from other seminaries?
PRTS is unique in its combination of being faithful to the Reformed confessions, offering a thorough four-year M.Div. program rather than a typical three-year program, and sharing the Reformation and Puritan emphases on godliness and the need to know the doctrines of grace by personal experience.

  3. What does PRTS hold to for doctrinal standards?
Our doctrinal standards are summarized in the Three Forms of Unity, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dordt. We also subscribe to the Westminster Confession and Catechisms.

  4. What is the Puritan Resource Center?
The Puritan Resource Center is one of the best collections in the world of Puritan primary and secondary resources. It is an incredible resource for our students and visiting scholars.

  5. What degree programs does PRTS offer?
PRTS offers a four-year Master of Divinity, a two-year Master of Arts in Religion, and a two-year Master of Theology degree.

  6. What is the difference between a M.A.R. and a M.Div.?
Our M.A.R. is designed to equip students preparing to teach or to continue on towards an advanced degree in theology. Our M. Div. is specifically designed to prepare men for ministry.

  7. Are your programs open to both men and women?
While PRTS believes that passages such as I Corinthians 14:34 & 35 are still relevant today, women may enroll in our courses and in our M.A.R. and Th.M. programs. Women will not be awarded a M.Div. because we understand the special offices in the church to be reserved for men.

  8. How does PRTS prepare students for Ph.D. programs?
Any student who holds an M.Div. or equivalent may apply for our Master of Theology program which can serve as preparation for a Ph.D. program.

  9. How much does PRTS cost?
Our tuition is heavily subsidized by our support base and is currently set at $190 per credit hour. A typical M.Div. comprises 127 credits and four-year tuition costs of just under $20,000.

  10. How can I visit PRTS?
Please contact the seminary to arrange for a visit. We would love to meet you and will arrange for you to meet with a faculty member and the registrar.

  11. Where can I find out about residence and/or off-campus housing?
The seminary has a committee of volunteers who work out housing and vehicles, if needed, for our students. PRTS also owns two homes at present, which we rent out to student families, and offers an on-campus food bank to assist students and their families.

  12. Are there scholarships available at PRTS?
PRTS has a limited, needs-based scholarship program. These are for students whose church does not have the resources to provide for their seminary costs. Read more information about the scholarship program here.

  13. Are accommodations provided to help in specific areas of need for a student with a disability? Is the campus fully wheelchair accessible?
The seminary is wheelchair accessible and faculty and staff accommodate the needs of all our enrolled students. If you experience special needs requiring adaptations we do not currently offer, every effort will be made to update our facilities and resources accordingly.

  14. Where do I purchase my textbooks?
Textbooks (and much more!) are available from our campus bookstore, Reformation Heritage Books.
